Lace Cane
You will need:
- Two contrasting colours of Modelene
- A pasta roller, straight sided glass or acrylic roller
- Blade
- Take a single wrap Bull's Eye and reduce by rolling it gently on your work surface (See Wrapped Cane Project)
- Reduce until cane measures at least 16cm.
- Cut into 4 or more equal lengths.
- Bundle together and compress gently.
Repeat the above process from Step 2 until the desired result is achieved.
Strong contrast in the colours chosen is essential for the Lace Cane if you intend using it as a small element in a more complex cane.
Tip: If the colours you need to use don't have good contrast, it is recommended that you use a thin separating layer between the two main colours.
Lace Cane Variation
For the variation above I added a black wrap around the original red and white logs, then squeezed each log to distort them. They were then stacked together as in the original lace cane, reduced, stacked once more and finally compressed into the final cane.
Tip: If you start your Lace Cane with 6 separate logs, placing 5 around a central log before each stack and reduction, the end result will resemble a spiderweb!
